This unique signet ring is decorated with a Post Medieval period seal intaglio depicting a cross in the shape of a sword, along with the letters "I H S" and three spears. The cross-shaped sword is a common symbol associated with the Crusades and the thereupon made order of Jesus, the Jesuits, representing the Christian faith and the military aspect of the expeditions. "I H S" is an abbreviation for the Latin phrase "lesus Hominum Salvator," which translates to "Jesus, Savior of Mankind." The inclusion of three spears could have various meanings, such as representing the Holy Trinity or symbolizing the Holy Lance associated with the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This type of seal intaglio would likely have been used to authenticate documents, letters, or important correspondence during the Medieval and post-medieval period.
